Who I am and how I can help you

Hi! I’m Martina. In my capacity as a Vocal und Performance Coach I’ll help you and your voice get ready for the stage. Discover with me how to master your performances with confidence and poise – while also enjoying them thoroughly.

Does this seem familiar?

Sticking point: Technique

Your voice breaks off.

You're in the middle of a melody and when it moves a little bit higher up all of a sudden your voice makes this funny, uncontrolled flip and you sound totally different.

Your sound is all breathy and no longer strong and full like before.

Sticking point: Performance

You have no idea what you're doing.

Before each performance you get this singking feeling that you don't really have a clue of what you're doing.

You want to appear natural and spontaneous and most of all you want to stay authentic, not put on and thrill the audience.

And all of this you are supposed to inherently know because singers just know this stuff, right? They're born performers...

Sticking point: Nerves

Stage fright puts a stop to your plans.Das

When you were practicing everything worked perfectly, but now onstage you feel just horrible.

You don' know what to do with your hands, you don't have enough air and you have to take more breaths and swallow all the time.

The Result?

Doubt, insecurity, frustration.
You question whether you have what it takes to successfully realize our own musical projects, you procrastinate tackling certain challenges and other stuff you don’t even bother with because it seems completely unreachable.
You make endless compromises – technical ones, artistic ones, personal ones.

And that doesn’t feel right at all.

How about instead THIS happens:

You experience yourself as competent

You are confident onstage, you enjoy your performance and you master technical challenges with expertise.

Flow

You experience a feeling of flow because you know exactly what you’re doing and that you can rely on yourself.

You have trust

You rock the stage because you have trust in your abilities.

Souds unrealistic?

Well, I used to doubt myself a lot. I even thought that I was probably just not meant to sing solo onstage.
So, why should I be able to help you?

Martina, 5 years old, at the piano 🙂

I did it.

I was a really shy child – see photo 😂. But I loved music and theater and I was dying to be onstage, every since I can remember. To slip into different roles allowed me to show parts of me that I would otherwise have kept hidden. The hours spent at the piano were pure meditation for me.

But after finishing my training in musical theater there still was a problem: I couldn’t sing the way I wanted to, I felt miles away from my role models and I wasn’t able to reliably reproduce onstage the things that had worked so well at home during practice.

I always was so incredibly nervous, that my pretty much inexistent breathing technique completely failed and what came out was not at all a clear and full tone but instead a sad and breathy little sound that in no way resembled what I actually wanted. I sounded more like the shy child from many years ago rather than the excellent musician and performer I was longing to be.

I almost gave up

I felt like a total failure and my technical shortcomings led to me also messing up everything else  – handling the audience, the dramatic development of the song, the interpretation – everything was a total mess because I just didn’t know what to so.

It almost went as far as me completely quitting my career as a performer shorty after graduating. I took a job in the backoffice of a community college and put data into a computer for hours on end.

After no less than FOUR more admin jobs I asked myself one day what I actually want from life.

Music and theater, right? I stardet taking voice lessons again and my teacher recommended a book to me called “Complete Vocal Technique” – and then pretty much everything changed for me.

Now I'm a Vocal and Performance Coach

I ended up at CVI in Copenhagen (Complete Vocal Institute) and the training there saved my struggling artist soul’s a**, to say the least. The Complete Vocal Technique turned out to be a method that finally clicked for me.

Then things really took off for me because I found out about all the stuff I am actually capable of. I also discovered how much I love to pass on my skills and knowledge. I created Songwork and have so far coached more than 200 singers.

And then I founded a theater ensemble and acting school together with my then husband Cary, created many of our own productions and trained actors.

Today I have the privilege of doing what I love to do: I get to be on stage myself, and I get to help others do the same!

It’s the total Thrill to witness how someone discovers something new for themselves and starts using it artistically in their own way. 🧡

I can help you -

– if you are in need of vocal technique that won’t let you down onstage and that just works. I’ll teach you the tools of the Complete Vocal Technique, which will make sure that you not only sing healthy notes but that you also get to make them sound exactly how you want them to sound. And another great thing about it: The method is independent of style. Whether you want to sing pop, jazz, heavy metal or musical theater – it’s applicable for everything.

Another thing I learned in Copenhagen: Most singers who don’t sing musical theater have no idea how to structure their performance for the stage. Oftentimes, they do a lot of things right instinctively, but there are so many tools used in theater that can be just as useful on a concert stage. I’ll teach them to you and get you ready for the stage so that you can really shine.
